Back-to-School Dental Tips from Acme Dentistry!
It’s almost time to head back to school. For most students, that means one last trip to our dental office for an oral hygiene check-up. We’ll make sure your teeth are in good shape, show you how to keep them that way, and repair any damage so you won’t have problems during the school year.
For new college students, going back-to-school can be a very different experience. If this is your first time on your own, you will have to take more responsibility for your personal health. Here are some tips to help college students take good care of their teeth:
- See our dentist before leaving: Schedule one last appointment at our dental practice before heading off to college, and let the people who know your oral history best make sure your teeth are in good shape. College students don’t usually know dentists near campus, often don’t have money, and usually don’t make the time. If something goes wrong, they try to tough it out until the holidays but that could make things even worse.
- Keep up good habits: Freedom can be a wonderful thing, but it needs to be used wisely. It may have seemed like your parents just liked nagging you about brushing and flossing, but they did have a good point. These two simple activities, when performed properly every day, can lead to a lifetime of sound oral health. Besides, it will make mom smile to know you actually listened to her!
- Watch out for bad habits: Some college students fall into bad eating and drinking habits because their parents aren’t around to direct their activities. While seeming attractive, things like alcohol, junk food, soda, and tobacco can do a lot of damage to your teeth very quickly. If you can’t brush your teeth right away, at least try to rinse out some of the particles with water as soon as possible. Every so often, try to eat some vegetables and drink some milk, just to keep up those healthy habits!
- Protect your pearly whites: If you are playing sports, make sure to wear a mouth guard to protect your teeth during any high-impact collisions.
Going to college can mean meeting a lot of new people, too. If your teeth are already yellow, stained or dingy-looking, it might give you less confidence about smiling or talking to others. Before you leave, talk to our office about professional teeth whitening. We utilize dental whitening products from Life-Like Cosmetic Solutions, the original teeth whitening system. Our dentist can provide in-office teeth whitening services, and can also give you one of our home whitening kits to use between visits.
Go back to school with a white, confident smile. Contact our dental office today to set up an appointment, learn more about teeth whitening, or ask any questions you may have about dental care, cosmetic dentistry, oral hygiene, or dental teeth whitening. Good luck in your academic career from the dental professionals at Acme Dentistry!
