Dear Friends,

Memorial Day is just around the corner, and you’re probably getting ready to enjoy the nice weather and the dawn of summer! Memorial Day reminds all of us of family, friends and food. There are going to be barbeques galore, and plenty of picnics to enjoy! A lot is going on over Memorial Day Weekend, and it’s easy to get caught up in the fun activities and forget about dental hygiene. We don’t blame you – we forget ourselves sometimes!

You’ve worked hard to get your teeth where they are, so you don’t want to lose track now. We’re proud of the work you’ve done, and we’re excited for you when it comes to celebrating Memorial Day weekend with your beautiful smile! Follow these little tips and tricks to make sure your smile is brighter than the sun this Memorial Day!

Eat Right!

It’s Memorial Day Weekend – that means picnics galore! You’re probably going to be going to a barbeque with friends, family or both at some point during the weekend. We know we’re excited for some good food! Remember that some foods, like ribs and corn, can wedge themselves between your teeth. You don’t need to avoid these foods, just remember to floss right when you’re all done! Learn more about tips on how to floss right. On a brighter note, some foods will actually strengthen your teeth! If you want a little boost for your hygiene, be sure to have a tall glass of milk, or try out some of the foods suggested by experts!

Manage Your Coffee

Whether you’re travelling or staying home, coffee is probably going to be involved in your Memorial Day Weekend. Coffee is always likely to stain teeth because of its acidity. The more coffee we drink, the easier it is to stain our teeth. Keeping track of how much we have can be important. Also, paying more attention to how we drink coffee can help. Much like other drinks, the more time it spends floating around our teeth, the worse it can end up being.

Whenever you have some coffee, be sure to follow up with a quick water rinse. Rinses can be great for a number of reasons. For example, you can kill some bacteria while removing any staining or damaging contents from your teeth, gums and mouth. If you want to go a little heavy duty on your rinse, try using some mouthwash that will strengthen your teeth. You’ll be smiling afterward, and if your teeth could they would be smiling too!

Get To Those Gums

You’ve probably heard us say this one before, but we can’t help but remind you every time we get a chance. Your gums are always going to be one of those trickier spots to get in your mouth. Brushing your teeth is always great, but paying some extra attention to those tough spots can end up going a long way. Try to focus on getting your gums a little better over Memorial Day Weekend. You could end up with better teeth at the end of the weekend than when it started!

Keep Track Of What You Drink

We know that Memorial Day is going to involve some fun drinks, and we don’t want to stop you from enjoying any well-deserved celebration! Unfortunately, drinking too much soda could start to damage our teeth. This could be even more true when we’re on vacation and not necessarily paying the closest attention to our teeth. Before you reach for your second soda, consider switching to a drink that’s friendlier for your teeth to give them a little break.

Bring A Brush! A Toothbrush, That Is

Memorial Day Weekend may mean travelling for some people. A three-day weekend and some great weather will inspire people to travel around! When you pack up for your vacation, double check that you’re bringing a toothbrush with you. Better yet, bring a travel toothbrush and some travel toothpaste along with you. You might remember to bring your cleaning products, but you may forget to bring them back! Using travel toothbrushes and toothpaste will save your teeth in the unfortunate event that something gets left behind.

Schedule Your Next Visit

There’s a chance that Memorial Day Weekend is going to be a “cheat weekend” as far as your dental hygiene is concerned. It’s ok to admit it as long as you plan to make things better! If you haven’t yet, schedule your next visit to undo any damage that the weekend might cause. If you already scheduled a visit, go ahead and double check when your scheduled. We want to give you the best smile possible, so we’ll be here for when you’re ready!

Or, Come In For A Visit Soon!

Why not start off the Memorial Day Weekend with a cleaning? This way you can be sure that your teeth are in tip-top shape going into your weekend festivities. Coming in for a visit is an especially great idea if you are considering travelling for an extended period of time or if you haven’t been in for a visit. The last thing you want while celebrating Memorial Day is a toothache. Don’t worry, we won’t bite!
